Newegg integrates PayPal for AI-powered shopping on Perplexity

Electronics retailer Newegg announced Tuesday it has integrated PayPal’s agentic commerce services, positioning itself among the first merchants to enable AI-powered shopping directly within conversational platforms like Perplexity.

The integration, which went live as Perplexity rolled out its revamped shopping experience on November 25, allows customers to discover Newegg products through natural language queries and complete purchases using PayPal without leaving the AI interface. The timing coincides with the Black Friday shopping rush, as AI platforms compete to reshape how consumers research and buy products online.

Merchant-First Approach to AI Commerce

Unlike traditional affiliate models that redirect shoppers to retailer websites, PayPal’s system keeps merchants as the official seller for all transactions. “AI is redefining the customer shopping journey, and over the past two years we’ve leveraged AI to build entirely new experiences for our customers,” said Newegg CEO Anthony Chow in a statement.

Newegg joins Abercrombie & Fitch, Ashley Furniture, Fabletics, and Adorama in the initial merchant lineup, with more retailers expected to integrate as the service expands. The system uses PayPal’s “store sync” technology to make product catalogs discoverable across AI platforms while preserving brand visibility and customer relationships.

PayPal’s Broader AI Commerce Strategy

The launch represents the culmination of PayPal’s multi-month push into agentic commerce. The company announced a strategic partnership with Google in September to develop AI shopping standards, followed by the October unveiling of its core commerce services designed for AI environments. PayPal is promoting the Perplexity integration with a limited-time offer: customers receive 50% back, up to $50, on first purchases made through the platform between November 25 and December 1.
